How to put an end to preoccupation?
Lack of willingness or even an aversion to work. Being lazy is human, and all of us at one time or another will go through a time like this. The problem is that there are times when we cannot let it win and we must fight it to move forward.
The psychology behind laziness
I'm not a psychologist, so I went looking for a professional. According to the psychologist's youtube channel in São Paulo, laziness is a cousin of procrastination. But they are different!
Your definition is not doing something you know you should do. But only if it is done through a choice. In many cases, such as depression, not doing something is not due to a choice but to an illness. Anyway, it is recommended to seek professional help.
Attention: laziness is not always a bad thing. A high analysis of why you are lazy at the moment is in order. Stress with a lot of work or doing an activity that you don't like can be factors that lead to laziness. In the topics below I will refer to a less formal, more natural kind of laziness. The one related to the work that needs to be done.
1 - Don't try to do everything at the same time!
It may seem contradictory, but there is a logical explanation for you not to try to do everything at once!
That reason is the way your brain works. The truth is that our brain unconsciously seeks pleasure and has a reward system that uses dopamine that is very effective.
You know how it feels to do a lot in one day and for the next few days to think something like... "I can do it later, it will be my reward for doing so much yesterday." ...so, this is your brain working towards immediate pleasure and creating a vicious and self-destructive habit.
And that's why you shouldn't do everything at the same time. This attitude cannot be sustained for a long period of time.
Instead focus on one thing and do it well.
2 - Fragment your tasks
Laziness can also be a result of uncertainty, you often find yourself in front of a complex problem, which creates uncertainty. This uncertainty keeps you stuck in the same place, as this is the easiest route your brain finds to escape the problem. By breaking down what you should do into small tasks the path becomes clearer which reduces this effect.
3 - Set deadlines to create a sense of urgency or commitment
Another common case of laziness is the idea of lack of urgency, it arises mainly in personal projects or those that do not have a risk, such as losing a job or failing. When urgency doesn't exist, I recommend that you create it. We are competitive beings and therefore we tend to be more excited if this urgency is created through competition with ourselves.
4 - Standardize your schedules
Standardizing the times is a way of telling the body when it should be active and when it should be relaxed, and for a pattern to work properly I recommend that you stick to it for at least 60 days. Because in the first few days it's common for your body to reject the new routine
